Kadala curry



               
Kadala is also called black chana. This curry goes well with rice, roti, puttu,
Idiappam, dosa or idli. It is prepared both in North and South India. I am giving the recipe of preparing kadala curry in a South Indian style.

Basic info about the recipe
Cuisine                                  - South Indian
Serves                                   - 3-4 people.

Ingredients:
1.   Black chana            - 2 cups
2.   Coconut (grated)     - 3 tbsp
3.   Turmericc powder   - ½ tsp
4.   Red chilli powder    - ½ tsp
5.   Pepper powder       - ¼ tsp
6.   Salt                           - to taste
7.   Coriander powder   - 1 tsp
8.   Chicken masala      - 1 tsp
9.   Fennel powder        - ½ tsp
10.       Oil                        - 2 tsp
11.       Curry leaves       - 7-8 nos
12.       Coriander lvs      - 1 tbsp
13.       Ginger-garlic pste- 1 tsp

Method: Soak black chana overnight and pressure cook in the morning. 2 whistles  on high flame and then on low flame, 4-5 whistles.

Grind raw, grated coconut with 1 tbsp of cooked chana.

heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds, fry curry leaves.

Add ginger-garlic paste and stir fry.

Add the coconut – chana paste and all the powders one by one. Cook well.

Add chana and salt and let everything cook together.

Add coriander leaves and serve  hot.
