Mixed Dal




Mixed Dal

Lentils are part and parcel of every North Indian Cuisine.  The name itself explains the benefits . It is a combination of different types of dal mixed together to provide the goodness in a single dish. Mixed  dal is readily available in the market.

Basic info about the recipe:

Cuisine                - North Indian
Serves                 - 3-4 people.

Ingredients:
1.   Mixed dal                                     - 3 handful
2.   Ginger- garlic paste                             - ½ tsp
3.   Onion                                          - 1 large
4.   Tomato                                        - 1 large
5.   Cumin seeds                              - 1 tsp
6.   Turmeric Powder                       - ½ tsp
7.   Red chilli powder(kashmiri)       - ½ tsp
8.   Coriander Powder                      - 1tsp
9.   Salt                                              - to taste
10.       Hing                                        - a pinch
11.       Oil                                           - 2 tsp
12.       Ghee                                        - 1 tsp.
13.       Green chillies                         - 2 nos
14.       Coriander  leaves                 - a small bunch.

Method:- In a pressure cooker, cook dal adding turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, green chillies and salt.  After 2 whistles, reduce to low flame. Wait for 2 more whistles. Turn off the cooker.

In a pan, heat oil. Add cumin seeds and wait to splutter. Add onion, tomato, ginger-garlic paste and fry well. Add hing to this.

Pour this to the dal. Add ghee and coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.    


Tip: It is believed that hing and ghee helps digestion and reduces acidity problem.
