Unniyappam




Unniyappam is a traditional snack served in Kerala. Its equally loved by children and elders. It got its name from the small size. Appam is made in a special pan (appakkaara) with small round moulds usually   5 or 7 nos built into the pan 

Basic info about the recipe
Cuisine                                   - South Indian
Serves                                    - makes approx 25 appams 

Ingredients for making unniyappam.

1.   Wheat flour                        - 3 cups
2.   Jaggery                              - 250-300gms
3.   Milk                                     - 2-3 tbsp
4.   Banana                              - 1no.
5.   Coconut scraped              - 3 tsp
6.   Sesame seeds                 - 1 tsp(optional)
7.   Water                                 - 1 cup( to melt jaggery)
8.   Oil and ghee                      - necessary to fill the burrows.

Method:- Add a cup of water to jaggery and melt  in low  flame.  Let it cool for a minute. Strain it. Add  all the other ingredients to jaggery and mix well. Pour oil and ghee together in a pan. Let it heat. Now reduce the flame and pour the batter to the pan using a spoon. Cook one side. After its cooked flip to the other side and cook well. Remove from pan and transfer to a paper napkin. Let it absorb the excess oil. Now, delicious appams are ready to be served

Note:- Instead of oil, you can use  ghee for the whole recipe.
